Mushroom Madness
Sunday, August 22, 2010
10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Spend the day learning about mushrooms at Mushroom Madness, cosponsored by the Wisconsin Mycological Society.  Learn to identify edible mushrooms in the wild and how to cultivate them at home.  Watch cooking demonstrations using mushrooms and enjoy an assortment of foods made with mushrooms available for purchase throughout the day.  Listen to experts on mushroom-related topics.  Admission is $3.00 for adults; children 12 and under are free.  Seniors, PHA members and Mycological Society members are $2.

The Polish Center presents an art exhibit of paintings by Kasia Szczesniewski. There will be an opening reception on Sunday, August 22 from 11 am to 3 pm. The exhibit will be on display until September 30, 2010. The reception and the exhibit are free and open to the public. The exhibit is open from 9 am to 5 pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday or by appointment.

 

Cabaret & Roses Concert

Enjoy this delicious cocktail of Polish cabaret songs, classic melodies, folk tunes and fun.  Featuring Krystyna Krystecki, pianist and cabaret singer from Vancouver, British Columbia, Danuta Łupina-Karnicka, soprano, Stas Venglevski, bayan, and Tatiana Migliaccio, violin. Tickets: $10 in advance/$12 at the door.  $2 discount for Polish Heritage Alliance members.

Please join us as we celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the opening of the Polish Center of Wisconsin's. This black-tie optional gala will feature an extensive menu that includes a chopped salad, mushroom soup, shrimp and scallops au gratin, a choice of beef fillet or chicken stuffed with mushrooms, dessert, a hosted cocktail hour, silent and voice auctions and more. The auction will include AirTran Airways tickets, hotel stays, tickets to sporting events and theaters, jewelry, gourmet food and spirits, and much, much more. Study Polish at the Polish Center
Registration is now open for fall classes

Learn Polish at the Polish Center! Whether you are a beginner, need a refresher course, looking to learn Polish for a trip to Poland or looking for some advanced language skills, we have a class for you. 

Polish I
Thursdays, September 16 - November 18, 6:30-8:30 p.m. (10 weeks)
Instructor: Michael Mikos, Professor of Polish Language and Literature at UWM
Fee: $140
The Polish Center of Wisconsin is the perfect setting for this class. Learn to read and pronounce Polish words; build a foundation for words and grammar for speaking and understanding Polish. Active participation is encouraged. No previous knowledge is needed, but you should be prepared to spend two or more hours per week reviewing lessons and completing homework assignments. The textbook can be purchased at the first class.

Polish II
Tuesdays, September 14 - November 16, 6:30-8:30 p.m. (10 weeks)
Instructor: Michael Mikos, Professor of Polish Language and Literature at UWM
Fee: $140
This program, a continuation of Polish I, is also recommended for those who have studied Polish before and would like a review. The instructor will emphasize conversational skills based on grammatical structures, with reading and writing as well as an introduction to Polish culture. The textbook for the course is "Władysław Miodunka, Czesc, jak sie masz? Part I."


Bingo
Doors open 4:00 p.m.

 

Join us every Wednesday night for smoke-free bingo at the Polish Center of Wisconsin. Early Bird Bingo for $1200 begins at 6:00 p.m. and regular bingo for $1200 begins at 7:30 p.m. Door prizes are on every third Wednesday of the month. Card Games
12:00 p.m.


Come to the Polish Center of Wisconsin on the first and third Thursdays of the month for an afternoon of card games. Games start at noon, open to the public. Card clubs welcome!
